Born and raised in rural Louisiana, Cody Smith moved to the Pacific Northwest to pursue his MFA at the age of 30. Currently, he lives in Tallahassee, Florida, with his wife Nichole and their two children, Thatcher and Edith. He teaches college composition, literature, and creative writing at Florida State University where he is a PHD student in Creative Writing.

Gulf, Cody’s first book of poems, is available for preorder and set to be released October 1st, 2019.

Cody’s poems have appeared or are forthcoming in such publications as Poetry, Willow Springs, Prairie Schooner, and elsewhere.

Cody’s poem “Self-Portrait as a Liminal Space” won the 2018 Mississippi Review Prize.

Cody is the founding editor of The Swamp.

When he’s not writing, editing, or teaching, Cody likes to dance in the kitchen with his wife, help coach his son’s little league baseball team, and oblige his two-year old daughter’s every demand. He’s a dark-roux gumbo enthusiast.
